Abseiling in German and rappeling in French means “to rope down”, it is a controlled descent of a vertical drop, such as a rock face, using a rope. Climbers, canyoneers or cavers use this technique when a cliff or slope is too steep and/or dangerous to descend without protection. Rope access technicians also use this as a method to access difficult-to-reach areas from above for various industrial applications like maintenance, construction, inspection etc. Rescue teams are also known for using this method as a way to access injured or stranded victims.

Abseiling started with a Chamonix guide, Jean Charlet Straton who lived during 1840-1925. It is nowadays used in a number of applications, including: access to wildfires, adventure racing, climbing, canyoning, caving, confined spaces access, industrial access, recreational, military tactical heliborne insertion of troops, and others.

Bungy jumping also spelt “Bungee” jumping was firstly done in 1979, commercialised in New-Zealand in 1986 and introduced to Switzerland about 20 years ago. These days, Bungy Jumping is well known and established all over the world, and has become a top notch trend sport. It involves jumping from a tall structure while connected to a large elastic cord. The cord stretches when the person jumps and the jumper flies upwards again as the cord recoils, and continues to oscillate up and down until all the kinetic energy is dissipated. An incredible feeling, an amazing adrenaline rush, with an incomparable high degree of emotion…

A “canoe” (Carib kenu or dugout) is a lightweight narrow boat, typically pointed at both ends and open on the top, propelled by one or more seated or kneeling paddlers facing the direction of travel using a single-bladed paddle. The intended use of the canoe dictates its hull shape in length and construction material. Historically, canoes were dugouts or made of bark on a wood frame, but construction materials evolved to canvas on a wood frame, including bark and hollowed out tree trunks, then to aluminium. Most modern canoes are made of molded plastic or composites such as fiber glass and inflatable rubber material, just like a raft. Until about 1850 the canoe was an important means of transport for exploration and trade, used by many and most indigenous people (Aboriginals, American indians, etc). After this it evolved more to a recreational or sporting use.

To eliminate all confusion and for comparison: a “kayak” (qayaq) was designed by eskimos in Alaska and greenlandic areas, constructed from seal skins and whale bones for hunting purposes. These boats are more closed with traditionally 2 manholes using a double bladed paddle.

Often the sport “Canoeing” is confused with “Canyoning” “Kayakking” or “Rafting”, though after a small research it is clear they differ completely from one another.

“Canyoning” is in other terminology: Canyoneering (USA, AU), Kloofing (SA), Barranquismo (ES), Torrentismo (IT). It is traveling in canyons using a variety of techniques that may include other outdoor activities such as walking, scrambling, climbing, jumping, abseiling (rapelling) and swimming. It is frequently done in remote, rugged settings and often requires navigational, route-finding and other wilderness traveling skills. Canyons that are ideal for canyoning are often cut into the bedrock stone, forming narrow gorges with numerous drops, beautifully sculpted walls, and sometimes spectacular waterfalls. Most canyons are cut into limestone, sandstone, granite or basalt, though other rock types are found. The Ticino canyons are mostly formed into granite rock.

While canyoneers have used and adapted equipment for years, more and more specialised gear is invented and manufactured as canyoning popularity increases.

Our goal is to support you in accelerating your team building process – we understand what teams are all about.

As such we advance the processes of decision making, creativity, leadership, and communication. The extensive team assignments have important elements and challenges that are commonly found in the everyday work life. For example: holistic and process oriented thinking, self-taught learning, selection of the best way forward, time management, motivation, and handling of resources, etc. After each exercise and upon completion, teams reflect on key learning points. In a facilitated feedback session these are analysed and define possible outcomes.
